
Yankees to hold Area Code Tryout at CONSOL Energy Park

The New York Yankees are holding an Area Code Games tryout Wednesday, June 17 at CONSOL Energy Park, home of the Washington Wild Things, for area high school players. The tryout is from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. and is closed to the public. Forty-four players in all will be taking the field in hopes of getting a taste of the big leagues.
Several local schools will be represented, including players from Peters Township, Upper St. Clair, Chartiers Valley, Mt. Lebanon, North Allegheny and Pittsburgh Central Catholic high schools. Players from across the state and its neighbors, including Ohio, New York and New Jersey, and some from as far as Massachusetts and Connecticut will be participating.
This is the 23rd year for the event, which will take place August 5-10 at Blair Field in Long Beach, Calif. The Yankees are just one of eight professional teams represented in the games with others including, the Washington Nationals, Texas Rangers, Oakland Athletics and Chicago White Sox.
