Lake Erie Crushers News Release

AVON, Ohio -- The Lake Erie Crushers used a three-run rally in the eighth inning to complete a come from behind 4-2 victory over the Frontier Greys at All Pro Freight Stadium on Saturday night.

The victory for the Crushers (30-39) marked the third time this season that they won despite trailing after seven innings, while the loss for the Greys (33-37) was their third in their last four games.

The pitching was once again very strong on both sides through most of the contest. Frontier Greys starting lefty Max Homick turned in a terrific performance, tossing six scoreless innings while allowing just a hit. The Greys got their runs early, but the Crushers kept them off the board over the final eight innings.

The Greys scored both of their runs in the top of the first. The inning began on three consecutive singles from Shane Brown, Michael Antonio and Brandon Tierney. Tierney's base hit to left was good enough to score Shane Brown from second, and later in the inning, Dillon Haupt's sacrifice fly scored Antonio to give the Greys a 2-0 lead.

Lake Erie held the Greys to just four hits the rest of the night. Anderson Hidalgo had Lake Erie's only hit over the first six innings, with a two-out double to left in the bottom of the first inning, before the Crushers finally got on the board in the seventh.

The Crushers went to work on the Greys bullpen once Homick was removed after six strong innings. Jose Barraza started the seventh with a single, and scored Lake Erie's first run on Daniel Aldrich's two-out RBI single to left.

Lake Erie then scored three times on a pair of hits to take the lead in the bottom of the eighth. Trevor Stevens walked to start the inning, and Juan Sanchez was hit by a pitch. Sanchez was retired at second on the next play as Chandler Brock reached on a fielder's choice, and Barraza followed with a two-run single through the right side to give the Crushers the lead. Emmanuel Quiles provided a big insurance run later on the inning, on a two-out RBI single to left to score Barraza.

Mike Devine (3-2) appeared for the 44th time this season, and scored the victory as he tossed a pair of scoreless innings of one hit relief with three strikeouts. Daniel DeSimone (5) tossed a perfect ninth inning to grab the save while Steven Wehr (1-2) took the loss.

Barraza led the charge for the Lake Erie offense, going 2-for-3, with two runs, two RBIs and reached three times on the night. Hidalgo hit safely multiple times on the night as well, going 2-for-4 with a double and a single.

The Crushers will finish their five game series against the Frontier Greys at All Pro Freight Stadium with a double header on Sunday afternoon. Right-hander Zach Morton (4-2, 3.55) will start game one for the Crushers and lefty Brad Zambron (3-4, 4.02) will start game two. The first pitch in game one is scheduled for 12:30 PM.
