River City Rascals News Release
O'Fallon, MO - The Rascals (38-32) blew out the Windy City ThunderBolts (29-40) in their series opener on Friday, August 7 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark.
RHP Dane Stone (W, 6-3) made his second straight start against the ThunderBolts. A week after surrendering seven runs in just four innings for the loss, the right-hander tossed 6.2 innings and earned the win. He was charged with seven runs, just five earned, on 10 hits. Stone struck out three batters and walked two.
Windy City took a short-lived lead in the fist inning. Mike Torres hit a solo homerun, and the ThunderBolts loaded the bases with one out. A groundball doubleplay limited the Bolts to just a 1-0 lead.
The Rascals then scored three times in the bottom of the inning. CF Curran Redal singled, and LF Brian Hansen tripled to tie the game. Hansen then scored on a groundout by C Jackson Slaid. 3B Taylor Ard followed with a solo homer, his league-best 22nd of the season.
The ThunderBolts scored two unearned runs in the fourth frame to tie the game. With men on first and second with two outs following an error, Marquis Riley singled to centerfield. Redal overran the ball, committing an error and allowing both runners to score.
The Rascals responded by sending 10 men to the plate and scoring six runs in the bottom of the inning. SS Johnny Morales singled, and Redal doubled to begin the frame. Morales scored the go ahead run on a passed ball before Hansen walked. Slaid singled home Redal, and Hansen scored on DH Danny Canela's single to right. 1B Zach Kometani and RF Josh Silver followed with back-to-back doubles to score three combined runs.
The Rascals plated five more runs on just two hits in the next inning. 2B Hector Crespo walked, Redal singled, and Hansen reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases with no outs. Two runs then scored on an error by third baseman Jacob Tanis. Next Ard doubled in a run, Slaid scored from third on a wild pitch, and Canela hit an RBI groundout.
Windy City put four runs on the board in the seventh inning. With two outs, the ThunderBolts collected five straight hits; Max White hit an RBI single, Cody Keefer doubled home a run, and Tanis drove in two on a double.
The Rascals scored a run in both the seventh and eighth inning. Slaid reached on an error in the seventh and eventually scored on a Canela single. Crespo singled in the eighth and crossed home plate in a throwing error by Tanis, his third error of the game.
RHP Zac Treece tossed 0.1 inning of relief, and RHP Derek Cape and RHP Zeb Sneed each added 1.0 perfect frame.
ThunderBolts starter Zak Wasserman (L, 3-4), who earned a win against the Rascals in his last start, surrendered eight earned runs and 12 hits in 3.2 innings. James Ferguson allowed six runs in just 1.1 inning. Chris DeBoo and Ryan Deitrich, a former Rascal and outfielder, each allowed one run.
The Rascals and Windy City ThunderBolts continue their series on Saturday, August 8 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark at 6:35 p.m. CDT.
