Joliet, IL- The Joliet Slammers (28-42) allowed just two hits but fell to the Florence Freedom (33-37) by one run on Friday Night.

New acquisition DH Joe Staley made himself at home in the first inning. With RF Nate Roberts on third and SS Alfredo Rodriguez on first, Staley ripped the first pitch he saw to left field for his first hit and RBI with the club. 1-0 after one frame.

Spencer Medick cruised through his first four innings of work but the fifth gave him trouble. DH Frazier Hall and LF Andrew Godbold walked. C Ozzy Gonzalez registered Florence's first hit of the night with a single to load the bases. CF Zach Burling and 3B Steve Carrillo were both hit by pitches which forced in runs and chased Medick from the game. Kevin McNorton came into the game and got 2B Daniel Fraga to ground into an inning ending double play. 2-1 Freedom.

That would be the last bit of scoring the game would see. Ed Kohout would finish off the game for Florence in the ninth retiring the Slammers in order for his fourteenth save of the year. The win went to Patrick McGrath (1-1), Spencer Medick was handed the loss (0-2).

Our Merchants and manufacturers Bank Player of the Game was Kevin McNorton. The right hander threw an out short of three innings and no runs allowed with one strikeout, lowering his ERA to 1.53. The Slammers will try to even up this series tomorrow at 6:05pmCT.
