EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Evansville Otters (46-25) were defeated by the Southern Illinois Miners (46-25) 7-2 on Saturday night. The winner of the series finale on Sunday evening will have the best record in the Frontier League and be in sole possession of first place in the East Division.
Hunter Ackerman was the starting pitcher for Evansville. Acquired yesterday in a trade from Joliet, Ackerman yielded two runs in the first, four unearned runs in the second and another run in the third. The Otters committed three errors in the first three innings and trailed the Miners 7-0 early on.
Evansville loaded the bases in the fourth but a flyout from John Schultz ended the threat.
The Otters scored a run in the fifth with a Josh Allen leadoff triple and an RBI groundout by Dane Phillips. Evansville's final tally came on a solo home run from Schultz in the ninth.
Ackerman (1-4) takes the loss, allowing seven runs (three earned) in 6.0 innings.
Phillips totaled two hits in the contest.
The home run by Schultz was a team-high tying 12th this season.
The series concludes on Sunday, August 9. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. CDT at historic Bosse Field. Fans can purchase tickets by calling the team's front office at 812.435.8686 or online at EvansvilleOtters.com.
