
Crawdads Defeat Shorebirds, 8-2

Salisbury, Md.- Matt McSwain pitched well in a spot start and the Hickory Crawdads defeated the Delmarva Shorebirds 8-2 and take the first three games of a four-game set at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.
With Henry Cabrera scratched from his start earlier in the day, McSwain, who came into today with an ERA of 7.71, went five innings and only allowed a run on three hits. Stephen McFarland pitched the next three innings for Hickory and struck out five. Derrick Moeves gave up a run in the ninth in closing out the game.
The game was scoreless after the first two innings before the Crawdads struck for three in the third. After walks by Kyle Schmidt to Jose L. De Los Santos and Alexander Presley, Bobby Kingsbury hit an RBI single for a 1-0 lead. A throwing error by Michael Pierce allowed Presley to score, and Kent Sakamoto followed with an RBI hit to center for a 3-0 Crawdads cushion. Hickory added two more runs in the fifth inning and three in the next frame to put the game out of reach. Sakamoto went 4-for-5 with an RBI and run scored.
The Crawdads go for the sweep tomorrow and send Michael Crotta to the mound. He will be opposed by Reid Hamblet for the Shorebirds. Game time is set for 7:05.
