Greenville Drive News Release
Columbus, GA - The Drive broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth, however the Columbus Catfish scored in the next three innings en route to a 7-1 victory Thursday night at Golden Park.
For the third consecutive game of the series, neither team was able to get on the scoreboard through the first three innings. The Drive were the first team to score once again, as Josh Reddick belted a solo home run off Jeremy Hellickson (7-2). It was Reddick's ninth long ball of the season, and second in as many days.
However the Drive would be shutout the rest of the game. Meanwhile, the Catfish would plate all seven of their runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. After allowing just two hits through the first three innings, Jimmy James (0-1) was tagged for three runs.
Joey Callender singled home Quinn Stewart, and James proceeded to walk Jairo De La Rosa before being relieved by Richie Lentz. With two outs, John Matulia delivered a two-run single, scoring Callender and De La Rosa.
An inning later, Columbus added three more runs, all with two outs. Lentz issued walks to Nevin Ashley and Stewart, and recorded the first two outs of the inning before Jorge Rodriguez came out of the bullpen. Callender, the first batter Rodriguez faced, roped a two-run double and scored as De La Rosa followed with a double.
The Catfish plated their final run in the bottom of the sixth when Cesar Suarez hit a one-out home run off of Rodriguez. Columbus also got solid relief, as Brian Baker and Neal Frontz combined to toss four scoreless innings.
Despite being limited to five hits as a team, Kristopher Negron tallied two hits in the loss for Greenville. It was the infielder's second multi-hit performance in his last three games.
With his 0-4 performance, and not recording a walk, Jon Still's 34-game on-base streak was snapped Thursday night. The streak was the second longest in the Greenville Drive/Bombers history.
The Drive and Catfish conclude their four-game series Friday night at Golden Park with first pitch set for 7:05 PM. Right-hander Daniel will toe the rubber for Greenville as the Drive look to split the series. Columbus will counter with right-hander Heath Rollins.
The Drive return home to West End Field on Saturday, July 21st. During their eight-game home stand the Drive will take on the Savannah Sand Gnats and cross-state rival Charleston RiverDogs.
