Jackets Shutout for Second Consecutive Night

Savannah, GA - The GreenJackets (50-20, 17-11) suffered back-to-back shutouts for the first time this season with a 5-0 loss to the Savannah Sand Gnats (20-50, 11-16) Thursday night. Starter Kevin Pucetas recorded the loss and Augusta has been held off the scoreboard for a season high 20 consecutive innings by Savannah pitching.

Pucetas (11-2) was touched for three runs on three hits in the first inning and threw 40 pitches. After allowing back-to-back singles to lead off the half inning, Pucetas recorded back-to-back strikeouts. However the right-hander then walked two consecutive batters to force in a run and Josh Thole followed with a two-run single for a 3-0 lead.

Pucetas worked five innings and allowed three runs on five hits, did not walk a batter and struck out seven.

The Sand Gnats got single runs in the sixth and eight innings off relievers Mike Musgrave and Craig Whitaker.

Leive Ventura connected for a one-out RBI double in the sixth inning off Musgrave for a 4-0 lead. Musgrave worked two innings and allowed five hits, a walk and struck out one.

In the eighth inning D.J. Wabick led off the half inning with a single off Whitaker, and then moved to second on a wild pitch. After advancing to third on a ground out, Wabick then scored the final run of the game on Whitaker's second wild pitch.

In just his second start of the season, Jonathan Castillo (2-3) recorded the win with seven shutout innings and allowed just four hits, walked two and struck out four.

The GreenJackets and Sand Gnats finish their series on Friday night with lefty Clayton Tanner (10-4, 3.00) going to the hill for Augusta. The Sand Gnats will have right-hander Jeremy Mizell (3-9, 5.29) go to the mound. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.

Game Notes:

Pucetas allowed just two base hits after the first inning.

The GreenJackets previous season high for scoreless innings was 19 set May 8-9

Augusta left two runners in scoring position.

Mike McBryde had his 14 game hit streak snapped with a 0-for-3 night.

The start of the game was delayed 1:48 minutes because of rain
