Cowen Named Alternate Captain For Team WHL

Calgary, AB. - The Western Hockey League in association with the Canadian Hockey League and SUBWAY(r) today announced that Spokane Chiefs defenseman Jared Cowen has been an Assistant Captain for Team WHL when they play Team Russia on Wednesday, November 25th in Victoria, BC during the 2009 SUBWAY(r) Super Series.

Cowen and Spokane forward Levko Koper will play in Team WHL's first game of the SUBWAY(r) Super Series. The Kelowna Rockets will host the sixth and final game of SUBWAY(r) Super Series pitting CHL All-Stars against Team Russia the following night.

Regina Pats defenceman Colten Teubert has been named Team WHL captain for game five of the SUBWAY(r) Super Series in Victoria, BC. The 19-year-old from White Rock, BC, is playing his fourth year with the Regina Pats and was a member of Team Canada last season when they captured Gold at the 2009 World Junior Championships. Teubert, who was selected in the 1st round - 13th overall by the Los Angeles Kings at the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, is representing Team WHL for the second straight season. Cowen (Spokane Chiefs), Jordan Eberle (Regina Pats) and Brayden Schenn (Brandon Wheat Kings) have been named as the assistant captains for Team WHL for the game in Victoria, BC. Cowen is also the Spokane Chiefs team captain, Schenn shares the captaincy of the Brandon Wheat Kings with Matt Calvert and Eberle serves as one of three assistant captains on the Regina Pats. All three participated in last season's Super Series with Team WHL.

Kelowna Rockets forward Brandon McMillan has been named Team WHL captain for game six of the SUBWAY(r) Super Series in Kelowna, BC. The 19-year-old from Delta, BC is playing his fourth season with the defending WHL Champion Kelowna Rockets. McMillan, who was selected in the 3rd round - 85th overall by the Anaheim Ducks at the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, is representing Team WHL for the second straight year. Craig Cunningham (Vancouver Giants), Wacey Hamilton (Medicine Hat Tigers) and Travis Hamonic (Moose Jaw Warriors) have been named as assistant captains for Team WHL for the game in Kelowna, BC. Both Hamilton and Hamonic wear the captains 'C' for their respective Clubs, while Cunningham serves as an assistant captain with the Giants. This is the first time Cunningham and Hamilton have competed with Team WHL, while Hamonic took part in the event last season.

The 2009 SUBWAY(r) Super Series will take place November 16 - 26 and marks the seventh straight year that teams of CHL All-Stars have competed against Team Russia in preparation for the World Junior Hockey Championships. The SUBWAY(r) Super Series is an integral part of the evaluation process prior to Team Canada's final selection camp in December. This season, Canada will be competing for a record sixth straight gold medal at the 2010 tournament in Saskatoon and Regina, SK.

Team WHL will face Team Russia in games five and six of the series on Wednesday, November 25 in Victoria, BC, and on Thursday, November 26 in Kelowna, BC. The first two games of the series are hosted by the QMJHL with the OHL hosting games three and four.

The 2009 SUBWAY(r) Super Series is supported by CHL associate sponsors, Bank of Montreal, NeilMed, and CCM, and will be broadcast nationally on Rogers Sportsnet with the two QMJHL games on RDS.

HOLMBERG AND BRASSART NAMED TO TEAM PACIFIC

Spokane Chiefs forwards Mitch Holmberg (Sherwood Park, AB) and Brady Brassart (North Vancouver, BC) are two of the 22 player on Team Pacific's roster that will participate in the 2010 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, December 29 - January 4, 2010 in Timmins, Ontario.

Team Pacific is comprised of 11 players from BC and 11 players from Alberta. Each province held a provincial camp over the summer to identify a set number of players. These players were evaluated during the first part of the season by a selected group of high performance evaluators.

"Whenever you're selecting a team with the depth and talent we have in both Alberta and B.C., it makes for a very difficult process," said Team Pacific Head Coach, Michael Dyck. "We are very proud and feel very confident with the team we have assembled, and we look forward to preparing our team that will hopefully challenge for a 'first ever' Team Pacific Gold Medal."

Holmberg and Brassart were the Chiefs first and second round picks, respectively, in the 2008 WHL Bantam Draft.

Holmberg has scored one goal and two points in 15 games this year while Brassart has two goals in 11 games.

FRIDAY ON 105.7 THE PEAK, GAME TIME CHANGED ON SUNDAY

Due to a scheduling conflict the Spokane Chiefs at Edmonton Oil Kings game on Friday, November 20th

will be broadcast on 105.7 the Peak. The broadcast will start at 5:30 PST with Comcast Hockey Tonight.

Fans listening on-line to the live radio streaming of the game will not be affected.

Once the Gonzaga men's basketball game is over on 1510 KGA, the Chiefs game will be simulcast on both stations.

The Spokane Chiefs and Calgary Hitmen have also announced that the Sunday, November 22nd game in Calgary has been moved to a 5:00 PST puck drop. Mike Boyle will go on the air at 4:30 with Comcast Hockey Tonight on 1510 KGA. The game was originally scheduled for 6:00 PST.

"We felt it was important to provide Hitmen fans the opportunity to watch the CFL Western Division Final," Hitmen Director of Operations Mike Moore said.

The Chiefs will play at Red Deer on Saturday night at 6:30 on 1510 KGA.

CHIEFS FANS DONATE 379 BOOKS TO PAGE AHEAD

Through the encouragement of Washington's Lottery, Spokane Chiefs fans donated 379 children's books to Page Ahead, a Children's Literacy program, during the last four home games. Forward Kenton Miller and goaltender Michael Tadjdeh then took part in Page Ahead's Reading Celebration on Wednesday morning at Cooper Elementary and helped donate brand new books to first and second grade students.

Fans were encouraged to bring a children's book to the game in exchange for a $1 Washington's Lottery scratch ticket.
