Countdown to Face-Off: K-Wings vs Walleye (Preseason)
October 5, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
The ECHL preseason will heat up tonight as the Kalamazoo Wings square off against the Toledo Walleye in the first half of a home-and-home series. Last season, the K-Wings captured the season series over the Walleye with a record of 9-4-0-1.
Two days removed since the beginning of training camp, the K-Wings are poised to face their first real competition of the preseason. After tonight, the K-Wings will conclude the preseason schedule tomorrow night at the Huntington Center in Toledo.
Like the K-Wings, the Walleye are ready to get their first game of the preseason under their belts. The Walleye feature a roster that has 19 new names, including one that is very familiar to K-Wing fans, as former captain Wes O'Neill signed with the team in the offseason.

A Baker's Dozen
The K-Wings enter training camp with a familiar feel. Kalamazoo has 13 players on their training camp roster that have played for the K-Wings; however both Eric Kattelus (Grand Rapids) and Mike Matczak (Manchester) are still on AHL rosters.
Two Return
Kalamazoo received two new player's to camp this morning, as forwards John Armstrong and Cody Crichton were released from the AHL camp of the Chicago Wolves. Both players signed with theK-Wings in the offseason; Armstrong played last season with the Utah Grizzlies, while Crichton played for Robert Morris University.
New Affiliation
This season, the K-Wings will be partnered with only one NHL team, the Vancouver Canucks. Kalamazoo also announced in the off-season a new AHL affiliation with the Chicago Wolves.
Feels Like the First Time
This evening is just the second-time in the K-Wings 39-year history that they played a home game outside of Wings Stadium. The first-time was back in 2001, when the K-Wings played the first-ever Pink Ice Game in The Annex.
