Kane County Cougars News Release
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-Resuming Thursday night's suspended game turned into an 8-5 loss for the Kane County Cougars before they dropped a 4-1 contest as well to the Bowling Green Hot Rods on Friday night at Bowling Green Ballpark
A 2-0 advantage belonged to the Cougars (48-49, 14-13) once the rains came on Thursday night, but that quickly vanished as Jonathan Dooley (2-3) entered to pitch the bottom of the second and was hung for for five runs. Josh Sale tripled home Todd Glaesmann to put the Hot Rods (55-42, 16-10) on the board while Sale scored on a passed ball before Tyler Goeddel doubled home a pair. Bowling Green eventually opened up an 8-2 lead while Andrew Bellatti (4-3) tossed four scoreless innings.
Kane County grabbed three runs in the ninth to chase Justin Woodall from the game, but Austin Hubbard (S, 14) was able to close the door. In the nightcap, the Cougars jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second as Kevin David singled with two outs and crossed the dish after a two-bagger from Tim Ferguson. That was the only run surrendered by Parker Markel (5-5) in his five innings of work.
Bryan Brickhouse (2-2) was unable to hang on to the lead as he walked six batters including the first three he faced in the bottom of the fourth. Ryan Brett drew home the first for the Hot Rods by bouncing into a fielder's choice with the bases loaded. Jake Hager finished off the threat with a three-run homer to put Bowling Green on top to stay. Stayton Thomas (S, 2) pitched the final two innings and didn't allow a baserunner.
The Cougars are at Fifth Third Field on Saturday when they take on the Dayton Dragons at 6:00 p.m. You can listen to the broadcast on www.kccougars.com, beginning with Cougars on Deck at 5:45 p.m. Right-hander Kyle Smith (0-1) will start for the Cougars against fellow righty Wes Mugarian (0-1). The Cougars return to Fifth Third Bank Ballpark on Wednesday, July 25 when they host the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at 6:30 p.m. For tickets, please call (630) 232-8811 or visit www.kccougars.com.
