
Quad Cities Defeats Lake County 5-3

Lake County Captains News Release
(Davenport, IA) - The Lake County Captains (14-13, 45-51) fell to the Quad Cities River Bandits (15-12, 50-46) by a final of 5-3. Quad Cites scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-1 lead. In the inning Quad Cities used five hits including a two out single by David Bergin and a RBI double by Anthony Melchionda made the score 3-1 Bandits after one inning.
Lake County got on the board in the first inning without the benefit of a hit. With two outs a two base error by the shortstop allowed Jordan Smith to reach second base with Jerrud Sabourin coming up. Sabourin hit a fly ball to left field and the ball was missed by the left fielder, and scooted all the way to the wall. Smith scored easily on the three base error. After the opening half inning, it was 1-0 Captains.
Lake County tied the ballgame in the third inning. The Captains accomplished this feat with four straight hits to lead off the inning. All of the hits were singles, started by Todd Hankins. Hankins scored on a Francisco Lindor single and Lindor scored on a groundout by Sabourin and the game was deadlocked at 3-3.
Quad Cities took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. With a runners at first and third with one out, Anthony Garcia hit a sacrifice fly to center field to give Quad Cities a one run lead 4-3. It became a two run lead when Juan Castillo singled to left field and Matt William scored the insurance run making the score 5-3 Bandits.
LHP Elvis Araujo (4-8) started the game for the Captains and took the loss. Araujo lasted just four innings and surrendered eight hits, five earned runs, two walks and four strikeouts. Araujo gave way to Francisco Valera who twirled two and two thirds innings, allowing three hits, and no runs. He fanned three. Kyle Petter pitched one third of an inning, he allowed one hit, and walked three. Petter also fanned one. Enosil Tejada pitched an inning striking out one and did not surrender a run.
RHP Brad Watson (1-0) got the start for Quad Cities. Watson earned the win. Watson pitched five innings, allowing six hits, three runs, two runs were earned. Watson walked one and struck out five. The Quad Cities Bullpen Kept Lake County off the board en-route to the two-run win. Heath Wyatt gets the save his 15th of the season after pitching one and one thirds innings.
The Captains will remain on the road on Saturday Night in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The Captains will send RHP Cody Anderson (4-5, 3.43) to the hill to start against RHP Dan Reynolds (0-3, 2.85) for Cedar Rapids. First pitch is at 6:05 PM ET.
