Beloit Sky Carp News Release
Beloit, WI- It's Twins weekend here in Beloit, and the Snappers finished off their series with the Lansing Lugnuts falling 2-0 with a lack of offensive support.
The Snappers and Lugnuts went scoreless until the top of the third when the Lugs scored their first run after an RBI base hit from Andy Fermin, scoring Aaron Munoz giving them an early 1-0 lead.
Lugnuts starter, Noah Syndergaard had a strong outing pitching five scoreless innings, allowing just three hits, while striking out six. Syndergaard was relieved by Tyler Ybarra in the bottom of the sixth. Ybarra pitched two scoreless innings. He was replaced by Brandon Berl in the bottom of the eighth.
The Lugnuts tacked on another run in the top of the eighth with an RBI single from Kenny Wilson, scoring Shane Opitz who singled to right. Opitz was moved into scoring position on a balk by David Hurlbut.
Hurlbut worked a season-high eight innings allowing five hits and two runs, while striking out seven. Snappers newcomer, Zach Jones came in for the top of the ninth making his Snappers debut striking out all three batters he faced.
Ajay Meyer came in to close the game for the Lugnuts in the bottom of the ninth.
The Lugnuts picked up the win 2-0 to avoid the sweep by the Snappers. David Hurlbut took the loss for the Snappers, he is now 3-4.
At the plate, Drew Leachman went two for four with two singles and Jairo Rodriguez went one for four with a double.
The Snappers start a three game set with the Great Lakes Loons tomorrow night at 7:00 PM. Tomorrow night will feature a post game fireworks show sponsored by Christofferson Moving and Storage. It is also a Woodman's mac and cheese Saturday, where any fan that brings in a box of mac and cheese gets a $1 off their ticket price. In addition to all the fun at the ballgame, we are also hosting a Twins Weekend breakfast Saturday morning at The Rock Bar and Grill in Beloit with special guests former Minnesota Twin, Al Newman, T.C. Bear, Snappy D. Turtle, and members of the 2012 Snappers.
