Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Bowling Green, KY - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (17-10, 55-42) won both games on Friday at Bowling Green Ballpark, beating the Kane County Cougars (14-13, 48-49) 8-5 and 4-1 to secure the three-game series sweep. In the completion of a suspended game from Thursday, Josh Sale and Tyler Goeddel provided RBI-extra-base hits, while Andrew Bellatti hurled four scoreless innings of relief. In the series finale, Jake Hager's three-run home run in the fourth inning was the difference.
Thursday night's game was halted before the bottom of the second could begin, and action resumed on Friday when the nine scheduled innings were completed followed by a seven-inning contest.
After sleeping on a 2-0 disadvantage overnight, the Hot Rods offense woke up in a big way in the bottom of the second inning as the action was resumed. Josh Sale got the Hot Rods scoring started when he tripled to left-centerfield to score Todd Glaesmann. Tyler Goeddel added a two-run double, and Ryan Brett drove in a run on a sacrifice fly. One half inning into the resumed action on Friday evening, the Hot Rods held a 5-2 advantage.
A three-run offensive outburst in the fifth proved to be huge for Bowling Green later in the first game. The Cougars brought the tying run to the plate in the top of the ninth, but Hot Rods closer Austin Hubbard came in to retire the final two hitters to secure the 8-5 win.
Then in the second game and series finale, the Hot Rods took advantage of some wildness from Kane County starter Bryan Brickhouse. With the Cougars in the lead 1-0, Brickhouse walked the bases loaded, and Ryan Brett drove in a run with an RBI fielder's choice groundout. Later in the inning with two outs and runners at first and third, Jake Hager lined a home run into the Hot Rods dugout in left field.
Despite recording just three hits, the Hot Rods managed to win Friday's second contest 4-1 to secure their second home sweep and fifth overall sweep in 2012. Parker Markel was strong in his five innings, allowing just one run to win for the fifth time this season.
