Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, IL - The Kane County Cougars, in conjunction with the Kansas City Royals, have announced that infielders Cheslor Cuthbert and Jake Kuebler have joined the team from the Royals' extended spring training complex in Arizona. Infielder Steven Caseres has been promoted to Class-A Advanced Wilmington, while another infielder, Michael Liberto, has been sent to extended spring training. Today's transactions maintain a 25-man active roster for the Cougars as the team begins a four-game series in Beloit this evening against the Snappers.
Cuthbert (Non-drafted free agent, 2009) officially becomes the youngest Cougar on the roster. The 18-year old Nicaraguan split the '10 season between rookie-level Surprise (Arizona) and Idaho Falls as a third baseman, batting .250 with three home runs and 15 RBI. Baseball America ranked Cuthbert as the seventh-best prospect in the Arizona League last season.
Kuebler (17th round, 2008) begins his fourth professional season in the Royals' system after splitting '10 between Idaho Falls and Burlington (Iowa). After batting .330 in 23 games for the Chukars, Kuebler spent the back end of the season in Burlington and batted .265 in 45 games for the Bees. Kuebler is a cousin of Royals' outfielder Alex Gordon.
Caseres, a ninth round choice of the Dodgers in 2008 who was signed by the Royals earlier this spring, becomes the first Cougar to receive a promotion to Class-A Advanced Wilmington. Caseres' stay in Geneva was relatively short as the infielder joined the club last Thursday and played in seven games for the Cougars. Liberto returns to extended spring training after playing in 15 games this spring with Kane County.
