
Carlos Lugo joins Kernels; Carlos Ramirez to Inland Empire

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announce that catcher Carlos Lugo will join the Kernels from Extended Spring Training and that catcher Carlos Ramirez has been assigned to Inland Empire. Abe Flores, Director of Player Development for the LA Angels, announced the moves on Friday.
The Angels signed Lugo, 21, as a non-drafted free agent on February 28, 2007. The native of Santo Domingo DR spent last season with the DSL Angels, hitting .207 with a home run and 15 RBI in 51 games. He has played all four of his professional seasons with the DSL Angels.
Ramirez was a member of the Kernels 2011 Opening Day Roster and hit .259 with three HR and 12 RBI in 31 games. He also spent all of the 2010 season with the Kernels.
Lugo will join the Kernels in Davenport and be available for tonight's 7:00 pm game against the Quad Cities River Bandits. With today's transactions, the Kernels roster stands at 25 active players, the MWL maximum, with one player currently on the disabled list.
The Kernels begin a four game road trip tonight in Quad Cities at 7:00 pm. They return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Tuesday, May 24th and open a seven game home stand against Clinton and Peoria.
