Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. - The TinCaps' bats came alive late in an 8-1 victory over the West Michigan Whitecaps, Friday at Fifth Third Field. Luis Domoromo went 3-for-5 with a tape-measure home run.
It was a slow start for Fort Wayne offensively; West Michigan RHP Kevin Eichhorn was perfect through five innings. After James Robbins ripped a solo homer in the bottom of the fifth to put the Whitecaps up 1-0, Fort Wayne's Emmanuel Quiles broke up the perfect game with a single to lead off the sixth. He would score later in the inning on a groundout by Rico Noel, tying the game at 1-1.
In the seventh, the TinCaps piled up four runs. Tommy Medica bashed a two-run homer to put Fort Wayne ahead, 3-1. Later in the inning, Quiles reached when a swinging third strike went for a wild pitch. After a Chris Tremblay single, Chris Bisson reached on an error to load the bases. Noel delivered a two-run single to left to make it 5-1.
An inning later, Domoromo led off the frame with a solo blast over the picnic deck in right. Later in the inning, Quiles drove in a run with a single and Noel was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to push the lead to 8-1.
LHP Noah Mull (1-1) picked up the win in relief of RHP Matt Jackson, who worked four strong innings. Eichhorn (2-3) took the loss, allowing five runs in 6.2 innings. TinCaps LHP Jeff Ibarra and RHP Adam Dominick combined on three scoreless frames to close the game out.
The TinCaps ran their road win streak to three games and raised their record to 17-24 while West Michigan fell to 16-23.
Fort Wayne and the Whitecaps (Class-A Detroit Tigers) continue the four-game series Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at Fifth Third Field. TinCaps RHP Matt Branham (2-3) goes against Whitecaps LHP Kyle Ryan (2-4).
