South Bend Silver Hawks News Release

Midland, MI - South Bend starter Bradin Hagens turned in the best outing of his professional career, tossing 7.0 scoreless innings in leading the Silver Hawks to a 4-0 victory over the Great Lakes Loons on Friday night at Dow Diamond. The shutout was the Silver Hawks first of the 2011 season.

Hagens (WP, 3-2) was in control from the beginning, allowing just two hits while striking out a career high eight batters in earning his third win of the season. After allowing back-to-back walks to start the fourth, Hagens retired the next 12 in order to turn in the longest and best outing of his pro career.

Dan Taylor (ND) and Chris Odegaard (ND) each pitched a scoreless inning of relief to complete the three-hit shutout.

Entering the game, it was Loons starter Garrett Gould (LP, 4-1) who had all the accolades. He was a perfect 4-0 entering Friday's game and ranked in the league with a 1.50 ERA. While he only gave up two runs in 5.0 innings, Gould was saddled with his first loss of the year.

Zach Walters gave the Hawks the only run they would need in the top of the first, blasting a two out homerun to right field for the early 1-0 lead. The blast was Walters fifth this season and his second against Great Lakes.

Ramon Castillo added a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead against Gould and the Loons.

Reliever Michael Drowne (ND) was charged with two runs after loading the bases in the seventh with only one out. Zach Walters bounced into a fielder's choice to score the third run of the night with the ensuing error on second baseman Casio Grider bringing home South Bend's fourth and final run.

Mike Freeman also had a hit for the Silver Hawks, extending his hitting streak to a team high eight games.Midland, MI - South Bend starter Bradin Hagens turned in the best outing of his professional career, tossing 7.0 scoreless innings in leading the Silver Hawks to a 4-0 victory over the Great Lakes Loons on Friday night at Dow Diamond.
