Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, Ill. - A third consecutive extra-innings contest finally delivered the Kane County Cougars' first victory of the season as the Cougars pulled off the 6-5 triumph over the Clinton LumberKings on Monday at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.
With the score tied at 5-5 in the bottom of the 10th, Rock Shoulders led off with a single off reliever Blake Hauser (0-1). Shoulders advanced to second on a groundout off the bat of Pin-Chieh Chen and scored when Bijan Rademacher dropped a bloop single in front of center fielder Jabari Henry for the game-winning tally.
Clinton (2-3) forced the game into extra frames by scoring twice each in the eighth and ninth innings. Guillermo Pimentel blasted a two-run homer off of Justin Amlung (1-0) to pull the LumberKings within two. In the ninth, Taylor Ard homered to draw Clinton to 5-4 while Dario Pizzano knocked home Brock Hebert on a pinch-hit, two-out single to tie the game at 5-5.
With the comeback, the LumberKings pulled a win away from Lendy Castillo, who allowed just one run over five innings in his Cougars (1-4) debut. The Cougars grabbed their first lead of the season in the bottom of the first when Dan Vogelbach's sac fly brought home Oliver Zapata. Wes Darvill's fielder's choice groundout allowed Chadd Krist to score in the second while Rademacher singled home a pair in the fourth.
The Cougars will battle the LumberKings in the second of their three-game series on Tuesday at 12:00 p.m. Right-hander Piece Johnson (0-1) gets the start for the Cougars against fellow right Stephen Landazuri (0-0). For tickets, please call (630) 232-8811 or visit www.kccougars.com.
