River Bandits Defeat Bees 12-2

The Bees got two runs in the first inning, but did not get a hit after the first three batters reached and fell 12-2 to the Quad Cities River Bandits on Monday evening.

Quad Cities (5-0) entered Monday night as the only undefeated team in the Midwest League, and stayed undefeated after slugging and pitching its way past the Burlington Bees (2-3).

The River Bandits scored 10 runs in the first three innings, including four runs in the first frame. Cameron Bedrosian (0-1) allowed a leadoff double to Teoscar Hernandez to start the game. Carlos Correa walked, Hernandez came home when Chase Davidson reached on a wild pitch after a strikeout and Jesse Wierzbicki hit a three-run home run.

Burlington got two of the four runs back in the bottom of the first when Anthony Bemboom singled home Sherman Johnson and Kyle Johnson came home on a double play. However, Joe Bircher and Vincent Velasquez did not allow a hit after Bemboom's single. Bircher (1-0) gave up two runs in five innings, while Velasquez fired four perfect innings with six strikeouts.

Garrett Baker was stellar out of the Bees bullpen, throwing 3.1 hitless innings, while striking out five. Eduard Santos also pitched a scoreless frame for the Bees.

Burlington will attempt to hand Quad Cities its first loss on Tuesday night when Brandon Love (0-1) takes the hill at 6:30 p.m. at Community Field.
