Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, IL - Corey Brown crushed an early two-run homer, and Danny Hamblin launched a late solo blast Saturday night to help the Kane County Cougars cruise past the Clinton LumberKings, 4-2, in front of 10,088 fans at Elfstrom Stadium. Craig Italiano and Brad Hertzler handled the mound work, as the Cougars have won the first three in the four-game set.

Brown's homer off Kennil Gomez (8-2) was his 11th of the season and gave the Cougars a quick 2-0 lead. Italiano, who walked three in the first inning before ending the jam, gave up his only run in the second to cut it to 2-1. The right-hander left after four innings and gave up one run on two hits, walked three and fanned three in a no-decision. Hertzler's (1-1) only blemish over five relief frames was an unearned run in the eighth, as the southpaw walked none and struck out four in the victory.

Greg Dowling nailed an RBI double in the fourth to give the Cougars a 3-1 advantage, and Hamblin cracked a leadoff shot in the seventh for a 4-1 score before Hertzler allowed his tally in the eighth.

The Cougars (3-0) try to sweep Clinton (0-3) on Sunday afternoon at 1 CT when Jamie Richmond (5-6, 3.74) faces Neftali Feliz (5-2, 2.24). Then the Cougars embark on an eight-game road trip Monday.
