Snappers Go Extra Innings To Sweep The Chiefs

The Beloit Snappers completed a four-game sweep of the Peoria Chiefs by defeating them 4-1 in 10-innings this afternoon.

Peoria scored one in the bottom of the third inning to take a 1-0 lead before the Snappers answered back with one in the top of the fourth. With two outs, Ozzie Lewis singled and reached second on an errant pick-off attempt. Eric Santiago then singled to score Lewis, tying the score at one where it remained till the 10th inning.

Mark Dolenc got things going for Beloit in the top of the 10th by singling to right field. Allan de San Miguel followed up with another single to right, moving Dolenc to third. With runners at the corners, Estarlin De Los Santos hit a sacrifice fly to left field scoring Dolenc to break the tie. With de San Miguel on first, outfielder Joe Benson hit his fourth home run on the season to give the Snappers a 4-1 lead.

Spencer Steedley pitched the final 2.1 innings, striking out three to pick up his third victory on the season. Beloit starter Steven Hirschfeld scattered seven hits over five innings.

Beloit completed the four game sweep to start off the second half a perfect 4-0 (40-32 overall) and hold sole possession of first place in the Western Division. Peoria drops to 0-4 (30-42 overall) in the second half.

The Snappers now travel to Clinton, Iowa to take on the Clinton LumberKings in a four game set starting tomorrow night at Alliant Energy Field. Clinton won the Western Division in the first half and has started out 1-3 in the second half.
