
Bees Use 12 Hits To Beat Wisconsin

Appleton, WI - The Burlington Bees remained perfect in the second half of the Midwest League season as they defeated Wisconsin 8-2 Saturday night. With the win, the Bees are now 3-0 in the second half and have beaten Wisconsin in seven consecutive games.
The Bees and Timber Rattlers played scoreless through the first five innings. The Bees then got on the board in the top of the sixth. Johnny Giavotella led the inning off by reaching on an error and then scored when Mike Moustakas hit his tenth homerun of the season. Jason Taylor then singled and stole both second and third base and scored on a two-out Jamar Walton single.
Wisconsin scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to get back within one run but the Bees got their three-run lead back in the seventh inning. Ryan Eigsti led the inning off by hitting his fifth homerun of the season. With one out, Giavotella walked and then moved to third on a Moustakas single. Giavotella scored the Bees' fifth run of the day on a Jason Taylor sacrifice fly.
The Bees added some insurance runs in the top of the ninth inning. Giavotella and Moustakas led the inning off with singles and each moved up a base on a ground-out. David Lough then hit an RBI single to score Giavotella and Moustakas also scored on the play as a result of a throwing error. Walton then hit a single to score David Lough to finish the scoring for the Bees.
Danny Gutierrez got the start for the Bees and pitched four innings allowing no runs on two hits with four strikeouts and no walks. Gutierrez is still working his way back from an elbow injury, which is why he pitched just four innings. Sam Runion pitched the final five innings allowing two runs, only one of which was earned, on three hits with three strikeouts and one walk. Runion picked up the win to move to 2-4 on the season.
The Bees collected 12 hits in the game. Both Moustakas and Lough had three hits. Moustakas and Walton each had two RBI and Giavotella scored three runs in the game.
The Bees will be looking for a four-game series sweep Sunday afternoon. Eduardo Paulino is the expected starting pitcher for the Bees. First pitch is set for 1:05. The game can be heard on 1490 KBUR and online at www.GoBees.com.
