Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
GRAND CHUTE, WI - Alex Liddi singled in the winning run in the bottom of the tenth inning to give the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers a 4-3 win over the Burlington Bees Sunday afternoon on Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. The win ended Burlington's seven game winning streak over the Rattlers.
For the first time in the last seven games against Burlington, the Rattlers scored before the Bees. A sacrifice fly by Juan Diaz drove in Israel Nunez from third base for a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third.
But, the Bees (3-1 second half, 33-40 overall) rallied back with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth. Jason Taylor singled and stole second to start the inning. David Lough followed with a triple that drove in Taylor with the tying run. It appeared Lough would be stranded at third to end the inning, but Zach Evangelho knocked in the go-ahead run with a two out single.
Wisconsin (1-3, 32-38) answered with a pair of runs in their half of the fifth inning. Brendan O'Donnell doubled with one out. Maximo Mendez was hit by a pitch with two outs to extend the inning. Diaz delivered with an RBI single to right to drive in O'Donnell with the tying run. Edilio Colina gave the Rattlers a 3-2 lead as he followed with an RBI single.
Timber Rattler starting pitcher Juan Ramirez maintained that one run lead until the ninth. He retired the first two batters in the top of the ninth. Then, Burlington sent Clint Robinson to the plate as a pinch hitter. On a 3-2 pitch, Robinson swung a tipped the ball back into the mitt of Nunez, but the Rattler catcher could not hang on for the final out of the game. Robinson crushed the next pitch to right for a game-tying home run.
Wisconsin had a chance to win the game in the bottom of the ninth. Denny Almonte tripled to start the inning against Chris Chavez. But, the Burlington reliever got a strikeout, a grounder to third, and a strikeout to send the game to extra innings.
Justin Souza, who got the final out of the ninth inning, pitched a scoreless tenth and let the Rattler hitters take over in the bottom of the inning.
Colina singled, his third hit of the game, with one out. A catcher's interference with two outs allowed Liddi to come to the plate. His lined an 0-1 pitch to shallow center. Adrian Ortiz tried for a diving catch, but the ball dropped in safely and Colina trotted home with the winning run.
The Rattlers begin an eight game road trip on Monday night with a game against the Cedar Rapids Kernels. Phillippe Aumont (4-4, 2.62) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Jordan Walden (3-5, 2.74) is set to start for the Kernels. Game time is 7:00pm.
