Kane County Cougars News Release
Geneva, IL â The Kane County Cougars beat the Beloit Snappers 6 â 2 Monday night to start an eight game home stand at Elfstrom Stadium. Jared Trout had his best day as a pro on the mound for the Cougars as River Forest, IL. product Vasili Spanos hit two doubles to put Kane County 11 games over the .500 mark for the second time this season.
The Snappers would land on the scoreboard first plating two unearned runs in the top of the third inning to take a 2 â 0 lead.
The Cougars answered in the bottom of the frame scoring three runs on two hits, the go ahead run scored on a bases loaded ground out by Trevor Brown and the Cougars took the lead 3 â 2.
Kane County scored three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as Luke Appert and David Castillo had RBI singles. Dustin Majewski lifted a bases loaded sacrifice fly to left field scoring Castillo to make it a 6 â 2 game. That's all that Cougars starting pitcher Jared Trout would need in route to his first win of the season. Trout kept Beloit off balance through seven innings allowing only two hits while tying a personal season best in strikeouts (7) and innings pitched improving his record to 1 - 3.
J.R. Pickens relived Trout in the eighth, retiring the Snappers in order followed by Jario Garcia who allowed only one base runner on an infield to close the door in the ninth. The Cougars will remain in first place in the Western division standings having won nine of their last 11 games.
The Cougars will face the Snappers in game two of the four game set Tuesday in a 12:00 p.m. tilt at Elfstrom Stadium. The Midwest League leader in wins, Steve Bondurant will tote the mound for the Cougars while the Snappers will counter with right-hander Greg Moreira.
