Normal CornBelters News Release

The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, were unable to clinch the series against the Southern Illinois Miners on Monday evening at the Corn Crib as Normal went down to the Miners with a final score of 5-2. Normal's Jacob Liedka (1-7) took the loss after pitching six and one-third innings, while the Miners' Shawn Gilblair (7-3) got the win.

The 'Belters were quick to get on the board in the first inning as first baseman Ernie Banks Jr. hit a double, bringing both Norberto Susini and Steven Felix across the plate, leaving the score at 2-0 in favor of the 'Belters.

Southern Illinois was quick to respond, adding two runs of their own in the top of the 2nd as Ken Gregory reached home after a CornBelters' error. Ryan Eigsti also crossed the plate after reaching base on a walk by Liedka, tying the score up at 2-2.

Southern Illinois grabbed the lead in the top of the 4th with a lead off home run by Ryan Eigsti. Miners put one more across before the inning was over, giving Southern Illinois a 4-2 advantage.

Miners extended their lead even further in the top of the 6th as former CornBelter Alvaro Ramirez was sent home with an RBI by Will Block, making the score 5-2.

That would be it, as Normal was unable to come through with any scoring opportunities for the rest of the game.

The series and the home stand conclude Tuesday with Tyler Stovall (1-7, 6.38 ERA) taking the mound for Normal against Southern Illinois' right-handed pitcher Cody Hall (4-0, 1.69 ERA) at 6:30 at the Corn Crib. Pregame begins on WJBC.com at 6:20.

Students who have earned vouchers in the CornBelters Reading Program can redeem them. It's also "Two for Tuesday" -- 2 hot dogs and 2 sodas for the price of one! All kids are invited to run the bases after the game! And, thanks to Woith Insurance, you can't lose with the 50/50 Raffle! Any raffle ticket purchase of $5 or more is insured for $2.50.
