River City Wins Series Finale 5-3, Avoiding Sweep at Bosse Field

(EVANSVILLE, INDIANA) - b0 The River City Rascals scored early and held on late in a 5-3 victory over the Evansville Otters on Monday night.

Evansville lefty Adam Champion and River City right-hander Preston Vancil kept both the teams scoreless until the fourth inning when the Rascals scored the first run.

River City would add two more runs in the fifth and another pair of runs in the seventh inning to extend their lead.

Down 5-0, Evansville staged a rally in the bottom of the seventh inning. Catcher Brett Chamberlain hit a two-run home run and infielder Luis Parache followed a few batters later with a sacrifice fly. Trailing 5-3, Nick Schwaner represented the tying run but River City worked around the rally to end the inning.

The Rascals held on to narrowly win by two, avoiding a sweep.

River City is now 32-28 this season as Evansville stands at 25-35.

Vancil (4-6) receives the win, allowing three runs (one earned) in 7.1 innings. The loss goes to Champion (3-4) after surrendering three runs (two earned) in 4.2 innings. Closer Brandon Cunniff threw the final inning for the save.

Evansville has an off day on Tuesday but has another home game on Wednesday evening at Historic Bosse Field. Right-hander Wynn Pelzer (0-2, 5.40 Earned Run Average) will start for the Otters against fellow righty David Harden (6-3, 3.39 ERA) of the Southern Illinois Miners. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. CDT on Vincennes University night.
