CornBelters Bats Silent in 8-0 Defeat

June 29, 2012 - Frontier League (FL)
Normal CornBelters News Release

The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, struggled to get anything going offensively, dropping the rubber match of a three-game series with the Schuamburg Boomers by a score of 8-0 Friday night at the Corn Crib. 'Belter starter Jacob Liedka (1-3) took the loss for Normal, while Schaumburg's Tyler Watkins (2-4) got the victory.

The Boomers got on the board early for the second straight night when a two-out single by Chad Mozingo brought in Sean Mahley to give Schaumburg a 1-0 lead after a half inning.

Schaumburg again created some two-out magic in the 3rd when Mahley and Frank Pfister came home to score on a single by Nate Baumaan.

The Boomers would go on to push the game out of reach with runs in the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th consecutively, extending their lead to 8-0.

Right fielder Steven Felix was the offensive star for the 'Belters, generating three hits on the night, while shortstop Chico Gomez, designated hitter Robert Brooks, catcher Matt Mirabal, and first baseman Pat Trettel all added a hit of their own to the Normal cause.

Saturday night the 'Belters hit the road to begin a three-game series with the River City Rascals in O'Fallon, Missouri. LHP Tyler Stovall (1-4, 5.00 ERA) takes the ball for Normal facing off against the Rascals' Kelli'I Zablan (3-2, 3.25 ERA).
