Corey Jones Blasts Homer on Wednesday

The SeaWolves offense was held in check for the third-straight game as they dropped the middle game of the three-game series to the Binghamton Mets, 6-1, on Wednesday night.

Binghamton jumped ahead in the top of the first inning against SeaWolves starter Cory Riordan. Derrik Gibson led off the game with a bloop double to left-center and scored on a Phillip Evans double for a 1-0 lead.

The Mets added to their lead in the fourth. Maikis De La Cruz singled with one out and moved into scoring position on a Xorge Carrillo base hit. De La Cruz scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Stefan Sabol, making it 2-0. L.J. Mazzilli followed with a base hit, turning the lineup over to Gibson. Gibson cleared the bases with a two-run triple for a 4-0 lead.

Binghamton continued to pull away in the sixth. Carrillo walked with one out and moved to second on a Sabol base hit. Mazzilli then walked, loading the bases. Gibson hit into a fielder's choice, scoring Carrillo for a 5-0 advantage.

The SeaWolves got on the board in the home half of the seventh against Mets starter Casey Delgado. With two outs, Corey Jones connected on an opposite-field solo home run, his third, making it 5-1.

Binghamton added a final run in the ninth against reliever Ruben Alaniz. Gibson and Evans each singled, putting runners on first and third. With one out, Dominic Smith hit into a fielder's choice, plating Gibson for a 6-1 Mets lead.

Delgado (3-4) earned his second straight win. He allowed a run on three hits with three walks and seven strikeouts in a season-high eight innings of work.

Riordan (3-4) took the loss allowing five runs on 10 hits with three walks and four strikeouts in 5.1 innings.

Erie wraps up the series with Binghamton on Thursday morning at 11:05 a.m. RHP Myles Jaye (2-4, 4.20 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against RHP Mickey Jannis (1-4, 5.36 ERA). Thursday is a UPMC Health Plan Education Day.
