Trenton Thunder News Release

NORWICH, CT - With narrow wins over the Hartford Yard Goats in both ends of a doubleheader Wednesday, the Trenton Thunder extend their win streak to a season-best five games.

Game 1 started with the Thunder jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning before Ronald Herrera threw a pitch. Hartford struck for single runs off Herrera in the 1st and 2nd innings to claim the lead. The Thunder righty settled-in after that and finished the night with six innings of two-run baseball and a career-best-matching nine strikeouts.

That set the table for Trenton's offense to rally late off starting pitcher German Marquez. The game was tied 2-2 in the 6th inning with two outs after a sac fly with the bases loaded from Lane Adams scored Dustin Fowler. A passed ball advanced Tyler Austin and Mark Payton to third and second base for Juan Silva who laced a go-ahead two-run double to left-centerfield for a 4-2 lead in an eventual 4-2 victory.

In Game 2, Trenton fell behind 1-0 in the 3rd inning with an unearned run off starter Eric Ruth. Ruth needed just 67 pitches to get through six innings while allowing two hits. He improved to 2-1 on the season while his ERA dropped to 3.18 on the year.

The Thunder offense provided two runs in the 4th inning for a 2-1 lead, which the pitching staff held up down the stretch. J.R. Graham entered for a scoreless 7th inning for his second save in a Thunder uniform.

The Thunder and Yard Goats return to action Thursday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. Pre-game coverage can be found on 91.3 FM and online at www.trentonthunder.com.
