March 20, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
Long Beach, Calif. â Jerome Marois scored three times to pace the Long Beach Ice Dogs as they defeated the Bakersfield Condors 5-2 in front of 4,774 fans at the Long Beach Arena on Saturday night.
The Condors scored on their first shot of the hockey game. Todd Alexander's ninth goal of the season came as his slapper from the left circle trickled through Long Beach netminder T.J. Aceti at 3:24. Long Beach tightened up, however, and held the Condors shotless over the next 14 minutes. They took the lead on goals by Darcy Johnson and Jerome Marois and led 2-1 after 20 minutes.
While the Condors fought to tie the game during the second period, just past the midway point Long Beach began a stretch of power play time that carried all the way into the third frame. The Ice Dogs had five power plays in the second period alone and scored on two of them to extend the lead to 4-1. Alex Kim and Jerome Marois tallied for the Ice Dogs.
Marois completed the hat trick with a breakaway goal during the third period to give him 18 on the season and make it 5-1 Ice Dogs. Jason Ralph's power play goal at 14:12 of the final stanza cut the deficit to 5-2 for the final margin of the game. The Condors managed just 16 shots on goal in the contest.
The Condors travel to San Diego for a 5:00pm start on Sunday evening, as their next three matches are on the road. They return home for Student ID Night on Wednesday, March 31st against the Idaho Steelheads.
