Titans Shutout Royals 5-0
March 20, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Trenton Devils News Release
TRENTON, NJ (March 20, 2004) â The Titans did what had to be done to beat the Royals for the second consecutive night and tie it up the fifth and final playoff spot. Four Titans had multi-point games, which included the first career hat trick for Bryce Cockburn and Peter Hamerlik's first career shutout, as they were able to keep the Royals off the scoreboard in the 5-0 victory.
Hamerlik gave his former teammates the goose egg for the Titans sixth shutout this season. Cockburn made no mistake when he sent the puck through the five-hole of Royals goaltender Tom Lawson late in the third period to complete his hat trick and put the Titans up 5-0.
The Titans special teams were on fire tonight as their first four tallies came on the power play. The Royals thought they had one 10:46 into the first but the goal was called back due to a high-stick, and the Royals were not able to bounce back after that.
But it was a different story for the Titans, who took the advantage of the power play and put two tallies on the board to open up the scoring as Cockburn went top shelf over Lawson's left shoulder. Then, 1:24 later Mathieu Brunelle caught Lawson sprawled out in the crease and lifted the puck into the net.
The second period proved to be the beginning of the end for the Royals as Matt Zultek got his 33rd goal of the season. Just 31 seconds later, Cockburn made it a 4-0 hole that the Royals could not escape. The Titans have not lost a game when leading after two periods.
The Trenton Titans are a member of the ECHL â America's Premier "AA" Hockey League. The Trenton Titans play at the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, NJ. The Titans close out the weekend against the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies on Sunday, March 21 at 3:00pm. If you're interested in tickets, call 609.599.9500.
