Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (33-24-10) defeated the Greensboro Generals (36-27-1) 5-3 Saturday night in front of 6,571 at TECO Arena. The victory helped Florida reclaim sole possession of second place from South Carolina who lost 4-2 on Saturday night in Roanoke.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first period, Florida's offense took over in the second period scoring three unanswered goals. At 10:34, it was Brian McCullough knocking a rebound past Greensboro netminder Daniel Berthiaume. Sixteen seconds later Reggie Berg one timed a Tom Buckley pass high into the net and the score was tied at two. Keith Anderson would add one more goal late in the second when he tipped in a Matt Pagnutti shot from the point and the Blades led 3-2 through two periods.
In the third period McCullough notched his second goal of the night when Brent McDonald's shot went untouched through the crease and right to McCullough who wristed the shot for his 38th goal of the year. Greensboro pulled back within a goal on the powerplay when Joel Irwin knocked in a loose puck at the side of the net. Florida though went back up by two goals when Matt Pagnutti one timed Berg's pass between the legs of Berthiaume and the Blades would hold on for the victory.
Greensboro jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Bryson Busniuk and Eric Fortier.
