
Gladiators lose to Lynx, 5-2

The Augusta Lynx used two goals just 34 seconds apart early in the third period to beat the Gladiators 5-2 on Saturday night in Augusta.
Martin Lapointe opened the scoring as he took a pass in the high slot and ripped a shot past Gladiators goaltender Trevor Prior. Scott Kelman and Greg Jacina added the assists on the goal at 4:06 of the first period.
Gwinnett got on the board with Steve Slonina's 16th goal of the season at 16:19 of the first period. On a 2-on-1 with Kris Goodjohn, Slonina used his line mate as a decoy and ripped a shot to the short side past Augusta netminder Jason Saal. Jim Jackson added an assist on the goal.
Augusta regained the lead in the second period as Louis Goulet muscled to the front of the net and lifted a back-hand shot over Prior. Brad Fraser added an assist on the goal at 15:47 of the second period.
The Lynx entened their lead to three goals 50 seconds into the third period as Todd Bennett and Goulet tallied goals 34 seconds apart. Bennett 16 seconds into the third ripped a shot past Prior on the power play from the high slot. Bennett and Marchant added the assists on the goal.
Goulet pushed the lead to 4-1 as he took a pass form Bennett on a 2-on-1 break moments later. Jonathan Goodwin also added an assist on the goal at 50 seconds of the third period.
Cam Brown stuffed home a rebound at 8:58 of the third period to cut the Augusta lead back to two goal. Brandon Dietrich ripped a slap shot from the right wing circle that sat in the slot were Brown threw it home.
Lapointe put the nail in the coffin with August's fifth tally of the contest at 15:25 of the third period. Sean O'Connor and John Cronin added the assists on the goal.
Goaltender Jeff Dotson replaced Prior in the Gladiators net following the goal and turned aside the only shot he faced. Prior maded 24 saves for the Gladiators in the loss who fall to 35-21-7 on the season.
