Condors sign rookie goaltender Cacciola

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.- The Bakersfield Condors announced today the signing of goaltender Dave Cacciola.

Cacciola, 23, joins the Condors after guarding the net for the last four seasons at Providence College. During his senior year, Cacciola started a majority of the Friars' games.

The Burlington, Mass., native posted a 2.67 goals against average and a .914 save percentage during his collegiate career. On December 4, 2004, Cacciola took the spotlight as he made a career-high 60 saves in a 1-1 tie against the No. 2 ranked team in the nation, Boston College.

"Dave is going to have to battle for a spot in our rotation," said Head Coach Marty Raymond. "We're looking forward to seeing what he can do at training camp."

Cacciola is the first goaltender announced for the upcoming season. He joins Scott Borders, Mike Hofstrand, Andrew Ianiero, Kevin Kotyluk, Reagan Leslie, Michel Massie, Oriel McHugh, Nate Metcalf, Andrew Oke, Anders Olsson, Justin Quenneville, Kevin St. Jacques, Oscar Stenberg, and Sean Venedam on the ice for 2005-06 season, bringing the total number of players signed to 15.

The Bakersfield Condors season opens in 45 days on October 22nd at home against the Victoria Salmon Kings.
