Fresno Falcons News Release
FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno Falcons head coach and general manager Matt Thomas has been invited by the San Jose Sharks, Fresno's NHL affiliate, to attend the Pacific Division Shootout. The Shootout is a four-team rookie tournament featuring prospects from the San Jose, Anaheim Mighty Ducks, Los Angeles Kings, and Phoenix Coyotes organizations, all of which play in the NHL's Pacific Division.
The Falcons' general manager is seizing this opportunity to scout and evaluate Sharks prospects that might one day end up in a Falcons uniform. Second-year forward Glenn Olson, who recorded one assist and 105 penalty minutes in 10 games with the Falcons last season, will skate for the Sharks' Shootout team. The tournament will also give Thomas the chance to familiarize himself with other young players from San Jose's Pacific Division rivals that in the future he could end up recruiting to play for the Falcons in the ECHL.
"We're excited that the Sharks made us a part of this process and for the chance to see some of their young talent play in game situations," said Thomas. "Not only will we be able to get to know some of the guys that might be assigned to us in the future, but we'll also be able to get a first-hand look at guys that we might want to recruit in years to come."
The Pacific Division Shootout runs from today through Sept. 11 at Logitech Ice in San Jose. Tickets to the games are available to the general public at Logitech Ice's main counter for $10 per game. BUT, due to an extremely limited number of available spaces, there is a two ticket limit per person for the entire tournament. For example, fans can buy two tickets to one game or one ticket to two games.
The Sharks are the NHL's defending Pacific Division Champions and begin their 2005-06 regular season on Oct. 5 at the Nashville Predators.
Falcons season tickets are currently available for the 2005-06 ECHL campaign, beginning with the club's season opener on Oct. 21 against the Victoria Salmon Kings at Save Mart Center. Both full season packages (36 games) and 24-game packages include seats to the 2006 Bud Light ECHL All-Star Game and Skills Competition to be held at Save Mart Center on Jan. 24 and 25.
