Chiefs Sign Fan Favorite

Johnstown, PA (September 7, 2005) - Johnstown Chiefs Executive Vice-President and General Manager Toby O'Brien announced today, that they have signed Left Wing Jason Spence.

Spence, 26, spent most of last season with the ECHL's Las Vegas Wranglers. The 6'1, 205 LBS native of Hants County, Nova Scotia, registered 9 goals, 17 points and 65 PIM in 58 games with the Wranglers. He also played two games in the AHL with the Lowell Lock Monsters.

"Jason is a huge signing for us. He brings so many intangible things to the team on and off the ice. The fans of the Johnstown Chiefs know Jason as an extremely hard working player and a leader of this team. He brings even more physical presence to the team as well," said O'Brien.

Spence was with the Chiefs from 1999-2003. In 161 career games with the Chiefs, he had 13 goals, 25 points and 595 PIM. He ranks fifth on the Chiefs all-time PIM list. Spence has played a significant amount of games in the AHL mostly with Saint John and San Antonio.

Prior to turning professional, Spence played two seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey league, both with Sherbrooke, where he had 763 PIM in 131 QMJHL games.
