Bakersfield Condors News Release

Bakersfield, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL has announced four roster moves, signing defensemen Glen Mears and Jason Courtemanche and placing RW Jamie Cooke and LW Johan Astrom on the seven-day injured reserve list, retroactive to Wednesday.

Mears, 31, spent six seasons in a Bakersfield uniform, including two years with the Fog. He has not played professionally since his release during the 2001-02 season, but retired as the Condors all-time leader in games played and penalty minutes. In his nine-year career, Mears has played in four different leagues, including parts of two campaigns in the ECHL, suiting up for Greensboro in 1993-94 and Toledo in 1995-96. Out of 438 career games, 347 were spent in Bakersfield. He is also the team leader in career assists and points in the playoffs.

Courtemanche, 33, has also spent some time away from the rink, but rejoins the team this weekend starting with tonight's match against the San Diego Gulls – a team he spent three seasons with in the late-1990's. In 319 career games in the ECHL, WCHL and the now-defunct International Hockey League, the Hartford, Connecticut native racked up 106 points and 1,610 minutes in penalties. Both players remain in the top 10 in West Coast Hockey League history in career penalty minutes.

Bakersfield place Cooke and Astrom on IR, retroactive to Wednesday, making them both eligible to play next Wednesday in Idaho.
