Florida Tops Louisiana 4-2

ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (3-1-0) defeated the Louisiana Ice Gators (2-1-0) 4-2 in front of a sold out crowd of 7,181 at TECO Arena on Friday night. Florida forward Brian McCullough notched two goals and Brent McDonald picked up a goal and two assists in the Florida win.
The Everblades struck first and made it 1-0 in the first period after Jon Insana's shot from the point was redirected by forward Brian McCullough and found its way into the net at the 11:20mark of the first period. Forwards Brent McDonald picked up the other assist on McCullough's 4th goal of the season. The Blades then took a 2-0 lead after Brian McCullough notched his second goal of the game on a 2 on 1 with linemate Brent McDonald. The IceGators then made it 2-1 on a goal from forward Kenny Corupe at the 13:23 mark. The Blades made it 3-1 on a shorthanded effort by forward Chad Larose at the 14:45 mark. However, the Ice Gators came back and made it 3-2 on Corupe's second goal of the game.
After a scoreless second period, the Everblades made it 4-2 on Brent McDonald's 3rd goal of the season to close out the scoring.
Florida goaltender Jeff Maund (2-1-0) stopped 26 of 28 shots he faced while Louisiana netminder Frederic Cloutier (1-1-0) stopped 19 of 23 shots he faced. The Everblades were 0 for 3 on the power play while the Ice Gators were 1 for 6.
Florida takes on the Louisiana Ice Gators in the second game of the two game weekend series tomorrow night at 7:30 PM. The Everblades remain home next weekend and take on the Gwinnett Gladiators in a pair of games on Friday and Saturday night at 7:30 PM.
