Columbia Inferno News Release


The Columbia Inferno (3-0-0) and the Greensboro Generals (1-1-0) meet for the first time this season. The Inferno is in first place in the Southern Division of the Eastern Conference with six points. The Generals are in fourth place with two points.

Last Inferno Game – COLUMBIA 5 Columbus 3

Tuesday night the Columbia Inferno defeated the Columbus Cottonmouths by a final score of 5-3. Jesse Schultz opened the scoring 3:18 into the first period with a wrist-shot over the left shoulder of Columbus goalie Olivier Michaud. Assisting on the goal were Derek Eastman and Corey Hessler. At 14:10, Robin Carruthers took a feed from Barrie Moore for a short-handed goal. With less than two minutes left in the period, Carruthers scored an even-strength goal on passes from Alex Burrows and Moore.

Just over two minutes into the second period, Paul Cabana and Moore set up Terry Harrison to score another even-strength goal pushing the score to 4-0. In the same period, Columbus scored three consecutive goals within seven minutes. Columbia's Eastman scored the game's final goal at 17:05 of the second period with assists awarded to Moore and Harrison.

Derek Eastman is tied for fourth among ECHL defensemen with four points (1g-3a)...Barrie Moore leads the Inferno with seven points (3g-4a) including two game-winning goals...Mike Roemensky has one assist in each of the last three games...Josh Blackburn is among the top goaltenders in the ECHL with a 1.00GAA and .955SPCT...Alex Burrows has four points (1g-3a) in his last three games...Jesse Schultz is on a two game goal streak with two goals... Corey Hessler has one assist in each of his last two games...Robin Carruthers scored two goals on Tuesday against the Cottonmouths...Goaltender Rob McVicar recorded his second win of his professional career against Columbus.

Greensboro won against the Texas Wildcatters last night in overtime 6-5...Eric Fortier had a hat trick against the Wildcatters last night, including the game winning goal in overtime...Geno Parrish leads the Generals in assists with four...Mark Turner leads with 15 penalty minutes for Greensboro.
