Condors gain another point in Alaska, but fall 3-2 in shootout

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Bakersfield Condors again overcame a deficit Saturday night, but the Alaska Aces rebounded to win 3-2 in a shootout Saturday night, before 5,136 at Sullivan Arena. Bakersfield however still earns a point and leaves Anchorage with three of a possible four points.

Alaska (3-1-0) had an early 2-0 lead, but Kevin St. Jacques scored twice to knot the score. In the shootout, the Aces received goals from Vladimir Novak, Barrett Heisten and Olivier Filion. Only two Condors (2-2-1) could beat Chris Beckford-Tseu in the extra frame, Rane Carnegie and St. Jacques.

Alaska jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to first- period goals by Matt Shasby and Kevin Croxton. Shasby got things started 3:55 into the opening frame, taking a pass from Peter Metcalf and beating Condors goaltender Jamie Hodson high blocker-side for his second goal of the young year. Croxton got his on an Alaska power play, redirecting in Metcalf's original shot from the point. It was his third tally of the season.

St. Jacques got the Condors on the board with his first goal of the season 18:59 into the second period. Sean Venedam dug the puck out of the left wing corner and centered to St. Jacques, who tucked it past Alaska netminder Beckord-Tseu.

Jocko then tied the game nine minutes in the third period, one-timing in Carnegie's centering pass. Hodson, who kept the Condors in the game, stopped 31 shots.

Notes: Marty Raymond is still five victories away from becoming the winningest coach in Bakersfield history. The Condors are 46-47-11 all- time against the Aces, dating back to WCHL play. Kevin Truelson remains on the three-day injured list with a broken toe. Andrew Oke and Alexandre Bolduc missed Saturday's game, both resting charlie horses. Preston Briggs was released on Wednesday. Danny Stewart, still recovering from a knee injury, could return next weekend. Todd Griffith is still awaiting the completion of his immigration paperwork.

Bakersfield and Alaska go back to work Friday and Saturday at Rabobank Arena, with both games beginning at 7 p.m. On Friday everyone in attendance will receive a Condors team poster, courtesy of Hot 94.1 FM and Rio Bravo Country Club. It will also be a Condors Kids Club Night, brought to you by Bright House Networks, The Bakersfield Californian and Wells Fargo Bank. The first 2,000 kids 12-and-under at Saturday's game will get a Condors Dodgeball, compliments of KGET-TV 17 and American Business Machines. Bakersfield is back on the road Sunday, Nov. 5 for a 5 p.m. contest in Long Beach.
