
Condors Drop Opening Game To Salmon Kings, 3-1

VICTORIA, B.C. - The Bakersfield Condors dropped Game 1 of the opening round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs to the Victoria Salmon Kings 3-1 in front of 2,314 fans at the Save on Foods Memorial Center on Monday night. The Salmon Kings now lead the series 1-0.
The Salmon Kings dominated the opening period, picking up a 1-0 lead. RW Milan Gajic found a rebound on the right side of the net and slammed it home at 9:23. Bakersfield was outshot 24-7 in the first.
Bakersfield looked much stronger in the second period, outshooting Victoria 9-8, but neither team was able to score. The Condors were plagued by penalties during the frame, taking four minor penalties during the second stanza.
Victoria picked up a two goal advantage on the power play just 38 seconds into the third. C Chad Klassen fired a one-timer to lift the Salmon Kings to a 2-0 lead. LW Chad Painchaud scored during 4-on-4 action at 5:03, building the Victoria lead to 3-0. LW Guillaume Lefebvre put the Condors on the board with 57 seconds left in the game, but it wouldn't be enough as the Condors fell by the final score of 3-1.

Notes: Victoria leads the best-of-five series 1-0... The Condors only played one game on Monday during the regular season, a 4-3 OT win over Stockton... RW Stephane Goulet was the first Condor to lead the team in scoring in back-to-back seasons since Kevin St. Jacques did it in 2004-05 and 2005-06...
