This Week's Recap and Results

Wednesday, March 30: Wheeling - 2 at Reading- 3 (Shootout)

All four goals scored in regulation came on the power play. Matt Dalton stopped 45 of 47 shots in the contest. Wheeling was unable to score in the shootout, while Andrew Sarauer and Ryan Cruthers scored for Reading to pick up the extra point in the shootout victory.

Friday, March 31: Wheeling - 5 vs. Toledo-- 4

Toledo rallied from the a 4-0 deficit, as Andy Bombach tied the game halfway through the third period. However, the Nailers Brandon DeFazio scored his second goal of the game with 2:51 remaining to lift the Nailers to a 5-4 victory. The loss eliminated Toledo from postseason contention.

Saturday, April 2: Wheeling - 4 vs. Toledo-- 3

After a scorless first period, both teams combined for six goal i the second. Mikael Bedard scored twice for Wheeling, while Tyler Murovich continues is good play registering is ninth goal of the season. Newcomer Anthony Maiani scored his first career goal in his first professional game. The win secured Wheeling the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference in the ECHL Kelly Cup Playoffs.

This Week's Quick Hits

Wheeling opens up the ECHL Kelly Cup Playoffs with a best-of-five series against the South Carolina Stingrays. The Nailers swept the two game season series 2-0. In fact, South Carolina was shut out in both meetings (1-0 on 11/21/10 and 3-0 on 3/19/11). Despite both team's long tenure in the ECHL, this will mark the first ever playoff matchup between the two clubs......Due to numerous call-ups and and injuries, the Nailers had a whopping 52 players appear in games during the regular season.

Coaches Show: Due to the teams travel to South Carolina, there will not be a Nailers UnMasked Radio Show tonight. However, don't miss out on the $11.99 steak special at the Generation Restaurant & Pub every Monday.
