Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors Professional Hockey Club announced Wednesday their 19-man active Opening Night roster for the 2006-07 season. One of those players is Brett Lutes, who was re- acquired in a trade with the Stockton Thunder.
The 24-year-old Lutes played with the Condors in 2004-05, his rookie year, notching 37 points (18g, 19a) and 104 penalty minutes. His 18 goals are tied for fifth most by a Bakersfield rookie in a single season. The 6-foot-1-inch, 195-pound winger from Riverview, New Brunswick played last season with the United Hockey League's Port Huron Flags, leading the team with 23 goals, 30 assists and 53 points.
Bakersfield will start the season with four players on the injured list. Scott Borders, still recuperating from a broken leg, and Steve Rodberg, nursing a torn MCL, were placed on the 30-day injured reserve Wednesday. Preston Briggs was placed on the seven-day I-R with an ankle sprain, while Alex Rogosheske was placed on the three-day I-R with a sore groin. Rogosheske will be eligible to play on Saturday.
Among the 23 players (19 active and four injured), 12 are returnees from last season's squad (Scott Balan, Alexandre Bolduc, Borders, Mike Hofstrand, Andrew Ianiero, Joel Irving, Reagan Leslie, Josh Liebenow, Tyler Scott, Kevin St. Jacques, Kevin Truelson and Sean Venedam). David Kudelka and Lutes, who both played with Bakersfield in 2004-05, are also making their return to Condorstown.
The nine new players are Briggs, Todd Griffith, Jamie Hodson, Nicklas Lindberg, Andrew Oke, Rodberg, Rogosheske, Danny Stewart and Danny Taylor.
This year's Condors squad starts with three veterans (players with 260-or-more professional games played): Irving, St. Jacques and Venedam. Four rookies will round out the roster (25-or-fewer professional games): Briggs, Griffith, Stewart and Taylor.
Two players have been assigned to Bakersfield from the American Hockey League and National Hockey League. Bolduc, who played with the Condors last season, was assigned by the AHL's Manitoba Moose and goaltender Taylor was assigned by the NHL's Los Angeles Kings.
