Inferno Announce Opening Day Roster
October 18, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Columbia Inferno News Release
COLUMBIA, SC (October 18, 2006) - The Columbia Inferno announced today their 19-player Opening Day roster. In order to meet ECHL salary cap regulations, the team also announced that center Grant Jacobsen was traded to the Johnstown Chiefs in exchange for financial considerations and center Dallas Flaman was released by the team. In addition, defenseman Bryce Thoma was placed on the 3-day IR.
"This is always a difficult time of the year as we shape our roster," commented Head Coach Troy Mann. "Jacobsen and Flaman are very good players, and the fact that we had to part ways with them today should be a good indicator that we are pleased with our depth. Our new affiliation with Toronto has proven to be a strong asset for us with the caliber of players they have assigned."
Jacobsen played nine games last season with the Inferno, netting two goals and three assists for five points. He played most of the 2005-06 season with the Reading Royals scoring 41 points (13g-28a) in 59 games. Flaman appeared in 63 games for the Inferno last year contributing 31 points (12g-19a).
There are only three players still remaining from last year's Inferno squad (Jeff Miles, Chris Barr and Chuck Tomes). New players have come from a variety of leagues including the AHL, ECHL, UHL and NCAA.
"With the disappointment from last season's performance on the ice, we felt that there was a need to bring in a group of players who would be prepared to bring speed and excitement to the Inferno games this season," stated Inferno General Manager Kevin Kavanagh. "We believe that this is a group of players who will make the Midlands proud of their professional hockey team."
Opening Day Roster: Forwards - Mac Faulkner, Alex Foster, Chris St. Jacques, Chris Thompson, Jeff Miles, Anthony Battaglia, Lucas Drake, Brad Ralph, Luke Fulghum, Owen Fussey, Defenseman - Mike Jarmuth, Chris Barr, Mike Vellinga, Justin Sawyer, Steve McJannet, Chuck Tomes, Derick Martin, Bryce Thoma, Goalies - Todd Ford, Rob Gherson.
Season, 18-game, 6-game and flex (8-game) packages are still available by calling the Inferno office at 256-7825. The Inferno opens the season on Friday, October 27th against the Augusta Lynx at 7:05 p.m. Columbia officially opens the 2006-07 season on the road with games in Augusta on Friday, October 20th and South Carolina on Saturday, October 21st and Tuesday, October 24th.
