October 18, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. - The Condors enter their second week of training camp with the signing G Randy Petruk and the release of six players in camp. The Condors roster, reflecting all changes, includes 21 players.
Petruk, 26, played last season on a sub-par Cincinnati Cyclones team but posted strong numbers with a goals-against-average (GAA) of 2.85 and a .909 save percentage. In 2002-03, he spent the majority of the season in the American Hockey League with Lowell, recording a .917 save percentage despite playing on the last place team in the league.
The Condors have three goaltenders on the roster currently, with Petruk joining rookies Sean Fields and L.A. Kings prospect Yutaka Fukufuji, who is expected to miss time this week finalizing his immigration in Ottawa, Ontario.
Meanwhile, in what Head Coach Marty Raymond called "several difficult decisions," he and Assistant Coach Paul Willett made cuts to the roster on Sunday. Forwards Mike Lukajic, Justin Williams, Roger Holeczy and Nobumasa Kinugasa, as well as defenseman/forward Kevin Caudill and goaltender Philippe DeRouville were released. They all played this weekend during preseason action.
The 2004-05 season opens in just four days at home on October 22nd against the Victoria Salmon Kings as a part of an Olympic celebration weekend. Everyone in attendance on Opening Night will receive a Condors magnet schedule, courtesy of KGEO AM 1230. On Saturday the first 2,000 fans will receive a Condors Gold Medal, sponsored by KGET-TV 17 and American Business Machines. The famous ZOOperstars make a return to Centennial Garden on Saturday as well, with a visit from Ichiroach Suzuki, Derek Cheetah, Roger Clamens, Mia Hammster, Peyton Manatee and Dennis Frogman.
A pair of Kern County Olympians will visit to drop the puck and sign autographs as well, with Gabe Woodward visiting on Friday and Larson Jensen on Saturday. Both games can be heard live on KGEO AM 1230 with "Condors Countdown" starting at 6:45 p.m. Ticket packages are on sale now for as low as $30.
