Clinton LumberKings News Release

Clinton, IA - Fresh off of the longest road trip of the season, one that resulted in just one win, the Clinton LumberKings (6-26, 32-69) scored three late runs that sent the game vs. the Cedar Rapids Kernels (19-13, 60-42) to extras, but Zack Larson's 10th inning RBI double made it 4-3, and Cameron Booser (SV, 10) worked around a leadoff walk in the 10th and got the visitor's the win.

On a night in which he issued a season high five walks, Clinton starter Lukas Schiraldi (ND) allowed three earned runs over just four innings. Schiraldi gave up a run in the third inning without a Cedar Rapids hit, as walks drawn by Brian Navaretto and Tanner English, paired with a wild pitch and a passed ball, allowed Nick Gordon's fly out to right field to plate Navaretto from third base.

The Kernels used three hits in the fourth inning to make it a 3-0 game, as both runs scored with two outs. With Rafael Valera aboard via a single, Navaretto plated him with a double. Naveretto scored one batter later, as Pat Kelly's RBI single made it 3-0.

Keaton Steele (ND) pitched well in his second start of the season vs. the LumberKings. Steele walked three and gave up three hits over 4.2 innings of shutout baseball.

After Michael Theofanopoulos allowed a run in the seventh on a bases loaded sacrifice fly, Randy LeBlanc (BS, W, 7-3) blew the two-run lead in the eighth. An error by first baseman Tyler Kuresa allowed Joe DeCarlo to reach, while two wild pitches got him to third base. Taylor Zeutenhorst struck out, what would have been the third out of the inning, before Kristian Brito drew a walk. Martin Peguero pinch ran for Brito, and it paid off, as Gianfranco Wawoe doubled into the alley in right-center field, and Peguero just barely beat the relay throw to the plate.

Tied after eight innings, each team had a scoring chance in the ninth, but came up short. Thyago Vieira (L, 1-2) allowed two hits but struck out a pair in a scoreless ninth inning. Two pitches into the 10th however, Vieira hit Tanner English in the left shoulder. After Nick Gordon struck out, a wild pitch moved English to third base. Following a walk to Edgar Corcino, Larson doubled off of the wall in left field, which plated English. Corcino was thrown out at the plate on the play, but the Kernels led 4-3.

Booser walked Chris Mariscal on a 3-2 pitch to begin the bottom of the 10th, but the lefty struck out both Joe DeCarlo and Zeutenhorst, while Peguero grounded into a fielder's choice that ended the game.

With a series opening loss, Clinton will have to face the current league leader in ERA and OBA Wednesday night in Felix Jorge (5-3, 2.10), while Zack Littell (2-6, 3.88) is set to start for the LumberKings. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 CT. The LumberKings radio broadcast can be heard on WCCI 100.3 FM, WCCIRadio.com, and LumberKings.com.
