(Eastlake, OH) - The Lake County Captains, class A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, will host its annual "Cleveland Sports History Night" this Saturday, August 1 at 7 PM when the Captains take on the Great Lakes Loons (Dodgers) at Classic Park. Last year's event was a finalist for Minor League Baseball's promotion of the year and the inaugural event in 2009 was named ESPN The Magazine's Minor League Baseball Promotion of the Year. The night will include Cleveland Sports history-themed on-field promotions and appearances and autograph sessions by Cleveland sports legends.

In addition to Cleveland sports celebrities who were announced earlier this week, legendary Cleveland Quarterback Bernie Kosar will also be making his first trip to Classic Park to participate in the pre-game festivities and autograph sessions with fans on the concourse.

Kosar and other sports personalities will be taking part in an exclusive pre-game meet-and-greet with VIP package holders who will gain early entry to the stadium at 5:00 pm. The VIP package is only $55 and also includes a ticket to the game, guaranteed Jobu bobblehead doll giveaway and a limited edition Jobu t-shirt from KeepCalmCleveland.com, a Cleveland-based t-shirt company. There are less than 40 VIP packages still available which may be purchased by calling the Captains at 440-954 WINS (9467).

Cleveland sports icons who are scheduled to appear during the event, subject to change, and who were announced earlier this week include:

Former Cleveland Browns running backs Kevin Mack and Earnest Byner who each rushed for 1,000 yards in the same season for the Browns in 1985; former Cleveland Cavaliers stars Campy Russell and Elmore Smith; former Cleveland Indians outfielder and 1980 Rookie of the Year "Super Joe" Charboneau; current undefeated professional boxer (12-0-1) and native Clevelander Antonio Nieves; and former Negro League player Ted Toles Jr.

The Captains will don special jerseys for this night which will be auctioned off with proceeds benefiting Captains Charities. The jerseys are blue and orange and will pay homage to the great Cleveland Cavaliers teams of the mid-to-late 1980's. The front of the jersey will feature the word "CAPS" with the "P" incorporating a baseball into the letter similar to the Cavs jerseys which had a net and basketball as part of the "V" on the historic jerseys.

The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive a Captains-themed Jobu bobble doll, presented by Sysco. Fans of the movie Major League, featuring the Cleveland Indians, know Jobu as the good luck doll of Pedro Cerrano.

In addition to the current and former athletes who'll be appearing during the night, the game will also feature book signings by local authors who've written about sports history in Northeast Ohio. Those scheduled to appear include Jonathan Knight, author of the book The Making of Major League; Michael Swank, author of Living on Borrowed Time: The Life and Times of Negro League Player Ted Toles Jr.; and Scott Longert, author of The Best They Could Be: How the Cleveland Indians became the Kings of Baseball, 1916-1920.

Individual game tickets are on sale at the Classic Park box office, online at www.CaptainsBaseball.com and by phone at 440-954-WINS (9467).
