Clinton, IA - Cedar Rapids starting pitcher Felix Jorge (L, 5-4) entered Wednesday night's matchup in Clinton with the league lead in ERA, WHIP, and OBA. Despite that, the Clinton LumberKings (7-26, 33-69) battered the righty for a season high 11 hits and seven runs (six earned) over 5.1 innings. The Kernels (19-14, 60-43) allowed multiple runs in four different innings, as Clinton leveled the series after Tuesday's extra innings loss with an 11-4 win.

After a scoreless top of the first inning, three straight frames featured multiple runs. Clinton took a 2-0 lead in the first on a run-scoring wild pitch and RBI single by Gianfranco Wawoe. The Kernels responded with a two-out rally in the second inning. Zack Littell (W, 3-6) issued back-to-back walks to Tyler Kuresa and Rafael Valera, and Brian Navarreto plated both with a double.

Clinton jumped on Jorge just half an inning later and took a 5-2 lead. With the bases loaded and one out, Jorge Walked Arby Fields, which put Clinton ahead. Brock Hebert followed with a two-RBI double, his second double of the night in his first game with Clinton.

Cedar Rapids plated a run in the third and the sixth vs. Littell and made it a 5-4 game, but Clinton never relinquished the lead. Littell finished seven innings and picked up the first win for a Clinton starter since June 29th. The righty allowed five hits, four runs, and struck out eight.

Chris Mariscal hit a solo home run in the seventh inning, his second home run of the season, and Clinton put three runs up in the eighth vs. Luke Bard. Wawoe's two-RBI double in the eighth capped off the scoring, as his third hit of the night made it 11-4, the final.

Every Clinton hitter reached base at least once and five recorded at least two hits. Wawoe and Austin Cousino each had a game high three hits, while Wawoe and Fields each had three RBIs.

With a chance at their first series win of the second half, the LumberKings will turn to Tyler Herb (4-7, 4.77) Thursday night in the series finale. Zach Tillery (5-4, 3.19) is scheduled to start for the visiting Kernels. First pitch is set for 6:30 CT. The LumberKings broadcast can be heard on WCCI 100.3 FM, WCCIRadio.com, and LumberKings.com.
