CLINTON, Iowa - The Clinton LumberKings downed the Cedar Rapids Kernels, 11-4. The LumberKings outhit the Kernels, 11-4, in the middle game of the series.

Clinton (33-69, 7-26) took a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the first. Arby Fields recorded the first hit of the game with a one-out single to left. Brock Hebert followed Fields with a double to left, giving the LumberKings runners on second and third. Estarlyn Morales then reached on a fielder's choice, resulting in Fields being thrown out at the plate. Hebert scored the first run of the game on a Felix Jorge wild pitch. Gianfranco Wawoe put the LumberKings in front by two with a two-out RBI single to center, plating Morales from second.

Cedar Rapids (60-43, 19-14) evened the game at 2-2 with two, two-out runs in the top of the second. Back-to-back two-out walks by Tyler Kuresa and Rafael Valera gave the Kernels runners on first and second. Brian Navarreto followed Valera with a two-run double down the left field line, scoring both Kuresa and Valera.

The LumberKings quickly regained the lead with three runs in the bottom of the second. Kristian Brito reached on a one-out walk before Martin Peguero singled to right. Austin Cousino then reached on a single through the left side, loading the bases full of LumberKings. Fields followed Cousino with an RBI bases loaded walk, bringing in Brito from third. Hebert extended the Clinton lead to 5-2 with a two-run double to right-center, scoring Peguero and Cousino.

The Kernels trimmed the LumberKings lead to 5-3 with a two-out run in the top of the third. Tanner English was grazed on the jersey to begin the frame. Nick Gordon then singled through the left side, giving the Kernels runners on first and second. Edgar Corcino bounced into a double play, moving English to third. Zack Larson followed Corcino with a two-out RBI single to right, scoring English from third. The RBI was Larson's team leading 46th of the year.

Cedar Rapids cut the Clinton lead 5-4 with a run in the top of the sixth. Larson led off the inning with a double to left field. Brett Doe moved Larson to third with a groundout to the left side for the first out of the frame. Kuresa followed Doe with an RBI groundout to the right side, bringing in Larson from third.

Clinton extended its lead to three with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Peguero started the inning with a one-out double to left-center. Cousino then reached on a Kernels fielding error, moving Peguero to third. Fields followed Cousino with a two-run double to right-center, plating both Peguero and Cousino.

Chris Mariscal extended the LumberKings lead to 8-4 with a solo home run to left field. The homer was Mariscal's second of the year.

The LumberKings extended their lead 11-4 with three runs in the bottom of the eighth. Cousino started the inning with a one-out double to right-center. Cousino moved to third on a Luke Bard wild pitch before coming around to score on a Navarreto passed ball. Fields followed Cousino with a walk. Fields then swiped second base, his team leading 21st stolen base. Two batters later, Morales drew a walk. Wawoe followed Morales with a two-run double, scoring both Fields and Morales.

Larson led the Kernels with two hits on the night. Larson finished the night 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and run. Larson's RBI single in the third extended his personal-best hitting streak to eight games.

English extended his on-base streak to 11 games after reaching on a hit by pitch in the third while Kuresa extended his personal-best on-base streak to seven games with a walk in the second.

Jorge (5-3) suffered the loss. The right-hander allowed a season-high seven runs (six earned) on 11 hits and two walks while striking out seven. Yorman Landa yielded one run on one hit and a walk while striking out a pair in 1 2/3 innings of relief. Bard allowed two runs on two hits and two walks while striking out two in one inning of relief.

Zack Littell (3-6) recorded the win for Clinton. The right-hander allowed four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out eight in seven innings.

The Kernels conclude the three-game series tomorrow evening v. the Clinton LumberKIngs. First pitch in the series finale is at 6:30 p.m. from Ashford University Field. RHP Zack Tillery (5-3, 3.19) gets the start for Cedar Rapids while RHP Tyler Herb (4-7, 4.77) counters for Clinton.
